I've been watching a lot of TV lately, either on the TV or the computer. Seems I'm smitten with many new things.
Pushing Daisies is by far the best. I love the writing, the pretty colors. I love the reference to my favorite They Might be Giants song. What sucks is that the third disc of season one just ends. It doesn't feel like the end of the season. We went looking for another disc. But that's it. Weird. Was it one of those shows that started its first season at the mid point? Like after some other show got canceled? Now I have to watch this season that's on now? Are the eps online? or Will I have to resort to nefarious acts to acquire them?
True Blood. I come from vampire fandom. Vampire romance fandom, not Buffy. I read the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series years ago and while I enjoyed it, it was a little too cute for me. I was used to more gore and more porn and more self-loathing in my vamp books. (Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, fyi). All I've heard, though, is how great this new show is and I was lucky enough to catch part of one episode while on vacation in Orlando (we don't have HBO at home). I was impressed enough to go looking for the rest of it. And wow! I love this show! I think Alan Ball did a marvelous job bringing it to screen--it almost has more self respect as a TV show than it did as a novel! And the chemistry betwixt all the people is just electric! I adored that Sookie's gramma was reading a Charlaine Harris novel when we first meet her. I didn't catch which one, though.
And finally, Sons of Anarchy. A coworker is obsessed with this show and she pulled out all the stops to entice me into checking it out. It was actually kinda scary how she knew so precisely which stops to pull out... "Hot Scottish Guy!" "Hellboy!" and "A guy from Queer as Folk" was most of her spiel. Now, I was a rabid QAF fan so I was enthralled and looked it up...oh! It's a guy from the original, UK QAF. Oh. Well. What got me though, was Katey Sagal! This show is what the Soprano's should have been! I love it! And Katey Sagal is awesome. Absolutely riveting as the "old lady" of the president of the Motorcycle club. I love the lingo, and having to occasionally look up terms on wikipedia. But I have gotten so accustomed to Charlie Hunnam as Jax--the tough guy biker, second in command...that now I *must* see QAF-UK because I think he was the twink on there. I canna wait! It's right here on my hard drive awaiting me.
So I'm not all geeked in one fandom for now. DW is on hiatus and I am using the time to reclaim my soul. *breathes deeply*
