The 'Ship that ought to sink
Dec. 11th, 2007 01:06 amOr Stinking Ships?
(anti-Martha/Ten to follow)
I started ranting over on a friend's journal in a comment and I don't think I was done yet.
( I never thought I would take it seriously enough to write this. )

You know, I haven't even finished the 14th (?!) Anita Blake book, Danse Macabre. I probably will now that I've been pondering it, but I have owned it for months now and I have yet to tear through it.
Now part of that is that as a rabid fan, I gotta make these things last until the next thing. As if! But still, there is the hope of slow and steady. I always intend to eat ice cream slowly, too. Hope springing eternal and all.
But this is not just delayed gratification. Or, at least, it is, but She has made it very easy to delay said gratification. The author has made it easy to put the book down.
So I wonder...I want to shoot her editor (14 books...probably 10 of which at least contain the grammatically offensive term 'pomme de sangs' which translates to 'apple of bloods' and it was in the 14th that it was finally repaired!)...I get the heebie-jeebies when faced with anything nonfiction written by the author--her blog, interviews, the like--and I feel violated by the arc of the story. By all standards, I should not be a fan.
And yet, I adore the Anitaverse and her fandom!
How sad is it that the canon is nowhere near as endearing, well-written, entertaining, in-character---you name it---as the fanon?!?!
I have mentally lumped LKH's stories about these characters in with all the great unwashed fanfic out there. It, like the others, will get sifted out, read, and reassigned to piles of relative worth. That statement ought to be censored for fear of legal backlash from the Author, huh? She gets the money, though, and she created our favorite characters.....so she gets the credit. But other folks just treat them better sometimes!
Anyway, I had to share.
