Well, LotTL would have been best viewed utterly alone.

The first 3/4 of it or so ranked up there with the Dalek Disasters. Stupid muppet!CGI!doctor sucked like Cockface Dalek--but more. Sucked more than levitating Yoda in the new Star Wars movies. Sucked more than pink eye and leg cramps put together. I didn't like it and it did nothing for the plot. I want a whole long and drawn out bit of fanfiction explaining where the wee little brown suit came from! Please! I beg the entire world. His suit did not shrink because little wee wormy fetus!Doctor was hiding in it (bless him--he knew it was right and proper to hide himself) And I recall some folks dithering on about ageism after it aired in the UK and so I wanted to approach it with an open mind. Unfortunately for the cause of thoughtful dialogue, there was nothing in this ep that could inspire insightful discussion on aging and societal attitudes thereof. More likely, this episode provides plenty of fodder for discussion of plot and arbitrary storyline development. There was no need for all the oldness except to emphasize how old the Doctor is and in this case the old writing rule of thumb, "Show, don't tell" should have been reversed. Silliness.

I still wish I had watched it alone cause I really wanted to immerse myself in the Doctor's desperation and grief and I really couldn't. Maybe later. DT was brilliant as usual--moving me in spite of the ridiculous story. I needed more info about the not!toclofane. The master went to the end of time and put the people in balls? Or did the humans do that to themselves. Would that sort of 'evolution' not have taken hundreds of years at least? And the Master could only travel to the year 100 trillion/the end of time? Did he stay there for hundreds (and more likely much more) of years and wait for them to 'evolve' and develop this united conciousness thingy, lose their bodies and live in spheres? And if so, why was it called THE END OF TIME when there were still a few hundred years left? Guess it's splitting hairs to call it "a few hundred years shy of the end of Everything." Even so, I don't understand. I don't get it. And one more thing...

What happened to Lucy Saxon? I guess a year with the Master alternately taunting the Doctor and torturing Jack left her with little to do but start shooting heroin.

And I'm sure this has been covered, but was anyone else thinking "I believe in Fairies!" instead of "Doctor"? I know, yet another nail in the coffin on the whole Peter Pan analogy. But I did love that Lucy was chanting, too! She knew she picked the wrong damn Time Lord!

I did love Martha's bit at the end. It really enforced how much of a big girl she is but she still isn't Rose and I loudly admit that I pick Rose no matter how immature and common it makes me. So there. It does also leave itself open for some lovely fic in a Martha/10 way...I am so fickle. If you can't be with the one you love, I always say...

Now for an abrupt change of topic:

How does one Beta?

Seriously. If you were a beta and read a bit of text and thought it could be reworked differently, do you rework it or write a note with ideas on how to rework it? Same with altering things like structure, timing, punctuation? How does an author work with multiple Betas?
Just wondering about the logistics of it all. I always assumed I understood it until I started to work it out. I am such a geek.

And finally, have I mentioned how much I ADORE the Transformers movie?

I'm going to see it tonight for the third time. And I am full of Squee.

In my old age I've realized that very few films will ever be re-released later for viewing on the big screen and that some films are just meant to be seen on a huge screen with a huge sound system. Sure, it comes out on DVD in just 8 days here in the US but a movie about GIANT things will not be the same on DVD no matter how big my TV at home gets to be. Star Wars *2nd reference in one LJ post suggests I may truly be a geek. However, I am not calling upon it for philosophical discussion, so that means something, right?* and even Pirates2 --the Kraken!--were meant for the big screen and while they are fun to visit, the DVDs just ain't the same!

And I almost forgot to squee! This movie is all genres rolled into one. There's romantic comedy, there's coming of age, there's action, there's war, sci-fi, conspiracy theories....and what delightful sounds! What glorious one-liners! I bow down to the writers of the script that managed to work so many of the toy's tag lines into the dialogue! Shia LeBouf is so gifted with the comedy. The effects are stunning and have yet to get old. I get goosebumps just thinking about them transforming.

There was only one--yes only one--thing for me to nitpick and that was the one hacker suggesting to the other hacker that he use the bloody Monitor to communicate with the outside world...She really could have picked up the CPU--I mean, aren't we all here in the 21st century and accustomed to computers even if all are not as comfortable as we? Could there possibly be anyone in the audience who would not recognise a CPU if they saw one onscreen--I mean, they might not even know what CPU stands for, but if you picked any CPU and showed it to almost anyone under the age of 60 they would say, "Computer" when asked what it was. Yes, I understand that nearly the same number of people (read: nearly all) of them would ready the exact same answer if shown a Monitor, but why should we feed the stupid? Why not feed the smart?

(And yet wasn't it just within the last 12 months that there was released a major animated motion picture that starred a lovable and thoroughly male lead Bovine that sported buxom pink udders?!?!)

I am almost blinded by the stupid sometimes. Thank all the Gods in Fandom for this lovely refuge.

Where stupid is a choice, not a lifestyle.
