I BR for a lot of people and generally find that notes are the way to go. I use a different colour font and put in an alternate word in with a question mark or make a note at the end of the paragraph - always as a suggestion, though, never just a comment. 'I think' is an invaluable tool. (Unless it's grammar, and then I'll just edit it in with my pretty blue font.)
