Flail!
Flail!
Flail!
I loved this episode.
I loved how cheesey it was--such continuity with the silly monsters and improbable stunts. If they ever get the big head and decide to make everything plausible it will take away from the show.
Donna was wonderful! I love Donna Noble. And, the dear--she asked about Rose--by Name!
And of course there was the "Mad Martha, Blind Martha, Charity Martha" bit. That made me laugh out loud.
The plot was delightfully angst-free, just like every series premiere should be. Start off with a bit a hope. And yet, this time the Doctor had even less to be hopeful about: He'd just lost the Titanic, Jack and Martha both refused to come with him after the Year that Never Was, he'd burnt up the only other Time Lord (and his ex boyfriend LOL), been tortured for a year at the hand of his arch nemesis, and all that after losing his OTL (a love he'd found only after wiping out his own home and people, and at least one other planet)?!?! Oh, poor, poor Doctor. And yet--still he goes on...saving the world, jauntily. I love the Doctor!
**deep breaths**
I digressed, there, didn't I? But all that explains why the "monsters" in this episode were just baby fat kilos. They were the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man's larvae :D
We had the Brown Suit. We had the Coat of Awesomeness. We had a comedically adorable silent scene between the Doctor and Donna. We had very little foreshadowing, aside from that great big one at the end.
And OMFG, that big one at the end!! I squealed, and carried on for quite a while! I went crazy! I was sooo shocked. I mean, I knew that one spoiler, too, but I never, ever, ever once imagined she'd show up in the first episode!! I got chills, I had tears, for crying out loud. I wanted to go be alone for a bit, just to soak it in. My lovely dh immediately told me to go chat with my fellow fangirls--he so understands.(and didn't wanna hear it...Marthafan that he is--he does it just to be contrary, I'm sure)
So, thank Rassilon for this space in which to share stuff like this. Otherwise I'd be a hig-strung pile of goo, dying to share with anyone who listened. Oh, bless the interwebs.
One week down, and RTD has not killed us yet. Last year, it was just ugly pain to watch The Doctor go on without Rose. But this year we have a measure of hope. **deep breaths**
Oh! And what joy to get to watch the same day, steada weeks and months later! For that, I thank
karenor, who brought me out of the darkness single-handedly. **squish**

Date: 2008-04-06 07:32 pm (UTC)I'm really surprised the Who team were able to pull of that stunt at the end. NO ONE suspected it would be that early, not even the spoiler whores. WELL PLAYED Who Team!!!!!
I wish she hadn't seemed so sad, it makes me worried for the future, but really really curious too.

I don't know WHAT I'm going to do next week when I won't be able to discuss it afterwards. I'm going to be a jittery mess at camping, telling random people about the Doctor.

Date: 2008-04-06 08:24 pm (UTC)Is your shift going to still be 7-7? Because there's time to download and watch the ep before 7pm! It might be hard to indulge in the collective squee, yes, but you won't fall behind. I WON'T LET YOU!

**always unnaturally comforted by the nod**
I'll be cool, man. I'll try at least. Seems working is good for writing at least, so hey! There may be a tradeoff!
Plus, luckily it's all coming early in the season. I mean, I will have to work a few other times but all this is happening serially but at the beginning. RTD saves the Really Good Stuff for the End. Trufax.
