All I really have to say is that I adore Donna.
Her pestering the Doctor to go back and not giving up until he did was so incredible. It reminded me of Rose---but Rose was too green to really push it--she trusted the the Doctor's instincts on that sort of thing--she deferred to him as only one so young would in the face of so much age :) What choice did she have--well that, and she is/was nowhere near as bossy or opinionated as Donna is. Donna isn't quite so convinced (yet) that saving the Doctor is more important than saving a few people. Rose had other priorities.
(and it can be argued that preserving the last of the Time Lords is still job one since his existence means more people round the universe can be saved...but I digress)
I think his going back for the family made him start to concede that maybe there is a little more grey area than he usually sees. But He doesn't need to get too bogged down with grey area or he'll go mad--so please, Donna, know when enough is enough. Donna doesn't quite get the whole time travelling thing yet--crossing timelines, interfering with history--those sorts of things. She will soon enough. Let's hope she doesn't pester him to death in the mean time!
I loved her snarky lines and I loved the classic sort of plot.
The only thing that bothered me was RTD's insistence upon anachronizing Pompeii to death. It was just pesky, not off-putting. Annoying.
I still love the new music. I love it more now.
And
karenor was right on, I think, in her squee post, about the Word Arc this series being "Lost" --since we've had lost home planets in 2 of 2 episodes already. Both times I'd've sworn that they were going to say their planets were lost in the Time War, but no. Not yet, at least. I can't wait to find out more!

Date: 2008-04-13 11:05 pm (UTC)I've yet to type up a proper review, but as far as the lost planets, I'm wondering if this is leading to something big. I mean, two out of two episodes this series CAN'T be a coincidence. Neither, I think are the repeated references to the Shadow Proclamation. Though Uncle Rusty throwing us a red herring or two wouldn't surprise me at all.
